What is a trademark & copyright?

There is often times confusion on what the difference is between a trademark and a copyright. Hopefully we can help make it a little clearer.

A trademark is a logo, slogan, or phrase that a company uses for their business and claims the exclusive rights to it. Trademarks are a legally recognized way for the company to tell everyone else that they own what is being used and no one else has the right to use it. Normally, trademarks are specified with a TM, a ®, or SM.

A copyright is exactly what it sounds like. Its the right to copy, distribute, and use what ever is being copyrighted. Normally the word Copyright with a year and © are used.
